Initially, Blazek was in the background. He was not a bad writer but had not begun drawing comics. It was not immediately that he discovered what he really loved. Eventually, he was given an opportunity to assist on a comic entitled Middle Age Daze that was produced by another cartoonist. Blazek assisted in writing the jokes of that comic. Later on, when the original cartoonist moved on, Dave Blazek inherited the comic and it became his own. This became the initial step in his cartooning career.
Dave Blazek would later have his own comic idea. He had a desire to make something new, unique and saturated with clever humor. This is when he began Loose Parts. This comic was not concerning a single character or a single story. There was a new joke each day. This was not something very easy to do. It is a very hard process to come up with a new idea and draw every day. Blazek enjoyed the competition, though, and he did not give up.
