When we look at real grandmothers, we see something different from weakness, tiredness or loneliness. We witness courage, humor, patience, wisdom, routine, sass and a beautiful ability to laugh even when life slows down a little. That’s where our old age comics come from. We first explore the daily lives of older women, and then make those mundane moments into heartfelt cartoons that honor and do not poke fun at older women. These represent grandmother cartoons with a simple motive. We want to bring a smile to older women, remind families to enjoy them, and remind everyone that being old can still be fun, personality and confidence.
#1. Speedy Shopping with a Dash of Senior Humor
The first comic in our series was based on the fact that many of the older ladies still go shopping with lots of spirit. We saw how a moment out to the grocery store can turn into the whole day for someone who has to locate their glasses, recalls their grocery list, checks prices, yet still gets it done in less time than all of us expected. This comic was created to demonstrate that senior women are not helpless, but they are still active, alert and full of character. The good news is that little things can count as successes and laughter always makes them more successful.

#2. Doing Nothing and Still Falling Behind
The second comic was inspired by looking at retired ladies who say that they have no time for anything anymore, but are busier than ever. Retirement, like sleep, may be seen as a time of rest, but many grandmothers enjoy a busy schedule of calls, chores, hobbies, family responsibilities, and community service. We advanced that concept to a pleasant old age poke, as it’s a real truth. We want older ladies to have fun with retirement and to feel proud that there is still rhythm, purpose, and sparkle to their lives.

#3. Searching for My Purse and Accidentally Getting My Steps In
The third comic was based off a very common scenario, of an older woman looking for her purse, keys, phone or glasses while shuffling around the house. We took the forgetfulness and made it into a funny moment about getting in the daily steps accidentally. This comic was developed to make grandmothers laugh at a problem that many grandmas are familiar with. The point is that if we see our frustrations with a kinder eye, even they can be good-humored.

#4. Stretching Into the Day with a Little Knee Sass
The fourth comic is about stretching, stiff joints and the funny noises the body makes as it gets older. We noted that many older women discuss their knees and backs as if they were old friends, giving their own strong opinions. This comic was created to make body aches a fun badge of experience. We do not want seniors to feel embarrassed, we want them to feel seen. The good news is that as you get older you may get a little stiffer, but also a little more patient, self-aware and making jokes about it.

#5. Gardening for Exercise, Tomato Talks, and Missing Trowels
The Gardening comic was inspired by grandmas who tend to their plants like family. We observed the many older women who like to chat with plants, inspect tomatoes, set up pots, and walk around in a quiet, serene manner. The gardening can be exercise, therapy and entertainment all rolled into one. That’s why we are making this comic around the bond between age and nature. It provides a positive message that old age can be defined by patience, care, beauty and the little things that each day brings.

#6. Weekend Travel After Sixty Needs Snacks, Readers, and Medicine
The travel comic was inspired by observing older women who, even when travelling for a short time, plan their journeys impressively. Snacks, medicines, extra clothes and reading glasses, tissues, and comfort items often travel along with them. We’ve taken this worry and turned it into something fun and cute. This comic celebrates the wisdom of preparation. It stands as a reminder to readers that grandmothers know what they are doing when it comes to packing, and that it is no sign of weakness.

#7. Cookies Count as Recovery Food
The baking comic was born out of the observation of how many grandmothers make their kitchens a place of love. When it comes to baking, it can be exhausting, particularly as you get older, but for older women, this is not stopping them from baking for themselves and others. We used this concept to make a joke about getting cookies after mixing cookie batter. The good news is, rest isn’t failure. For the older female, it is a matter of comfort, sweetness, and pride that comes from doing little things to warm a home.

#8. Passwords, Screens, Buttons, and the Cloud
Many seniors face daily challenges with technology, hence the creation of the technology comic. Many older ladies try to learn about passwords, phones, buttons, screens and online accounts when they can feel confusing. We decided to make this comic to celebrate that effort in a humorous way. The intention is NOT to laugh at seniors, but to laugh with seniors. As this comic explains, it’s never too late to learn, and confusion can still be a funny, human experience.

#9. Beach Walks, Snack Stands, and Knees Filing Complaints
The beach comic is inspired by the fact that even as the knees start to feel the strain midway through the walk, granny still wants to get to the beach. It can be nice to have the parking close to the start, and the snack in the middle and the chair at the end of the long beach walk. This joke was made to prove that there is still more life to be enjoyed by senior citizens, just that they do it with wisdom. The good news is, comfort and fun can go hand in hand in older age.

#10. Relaxation, Yarn Battles, and Scissor Surprises
The knitting comic was based on the hobbies of many grandmothers to knit cozy things. Knitting is a calm and quiet and peaceful activity, but if you’ve ever knitted you know how easy it is to end up in a small battle with tangled yarn. We decided to make a funny old age comic, since creative and frustrated is a loveable combination. We want older ladies to laugh at the hobbies and to remember that it is meaningful to make something with their hands.

#11. Yoga Balance Is Actually in the Kitchen Near the Pie
The yoga comic was born out of realizing how many senior women, whether it be in yoga or another form of exercise, want to stay flexible and active in their own way. Sometimes it is difficult to balance things out, but it is easier with humor. This is a comic to honor the movement with no pressure. The underlying message is that old women don’t have to prove anything. Stretching, breathing, and laughing at times of wobbliness are all a healthy, positive life.

#12. Shopping Is Cardio, Strength Training, and a Memory Workout
The shopping comic was conceived as a result of seeing fashionable older women who still like fashion, shoes, purse and dressing up. We realized that shopping can be exercise, social time and personal enjoyment all in one! This comic came about because age isn’t an indicator of a loss of style. The good news is that the older female can be bold, trendy and playful. Confidence never goes out of fashion and a suitable dress can make any day shine.

#13. Reading Beats Remembering the Other Room
The book club comic was based on the fact that reading is a comforting pastime for many seniors. Books, tea, cats and quiet corners make for peace, while memory lapses can provide humor to the day. This comic was made to highlight the gentler aspects of growing older. It is a celebration of calmness, imagination and friendship. The message is that old age can be thoughtful and cozy, and laughter can be heard, even in the quietest rooms.

#14. A Leisurely Dog Walk Becomes a Full Wellness Retreat
The dog walking comic is based on older ladies that walk slowly with their dog and enjoy every little stop. The dog sniffs, the owner stretches and nobody’s in a hurry. We created this comic to illustrate that slow movement is still movement. It conveys a positive message of companionship, patience and wellness. The key is that the walk doesn’t have to be a brisk one to be beneficial, it just has to be a happy one.

#15. Cardio Without Running
The bingo comic was inspired by seeing the excitement generated when community games are played by older people. Bingo is easy, social and lots of fun and suspense. We developed this comic since old age is not dull, but lively. There should be fun areas for older ladies, where they can laugh, compete and feel connected. The good news is that there’s happiness in numbers, community, lucky charms, and in laughter.

#16. Hair Encouragement and Chin-Hair Security
The beauty salon comic was conceived by grandmas who continue to love feeling fresh and looking great. Hair, eyebrows, make up, a little more hairspray can be a beautiful confidence ritual. This joke was developed to honor self-care in later life. The message is that desiring to look good is not just for the youth. Older women deserve to feel glamorous, doted upon and wonderfully sassy.

#17. Keeping Track of Medications and Forgetting the Glasses Again
The medicine comic came from the often complex regimen that many older ladies have to follow on a daily basis. Pill organizers, reminders, water glasses, calendars, and sticky notes can help make life feel like a little control center. To ease tension in a hard schedule, we made this challenge a lighthearted joke. The good news is that older people manage their health well and jokes can help the job seem less daunting.

#18. Morning Crossword Workout and a Second Breakfast
The inspiration for the crossword comic was watching the quiet thinking and having all of those other elements in the morning routine: the coffee, the newspapers, the pencils. Many older women like puzzles, as they keep the mind engaged, even when one piece is not cooperating. This comic was made to commemorate mental exercise in a humorous fashion. The message is that aging Minds are Curious, Playful and Capable. Slow answer is still a part of fun.

#19. Art Therapy with Colorful Creative Choices
The idea for the art class comic came from the older ladies who pursue art at later stages of life. Paint can get on the canvas, table, apron and everywhere in between, but the fun is on. We made this comic to prove that age isn’t a limit on self-expression. The good news is that failure can be a creative asset and old age a golden opportunity to explore new colors, hobbies and ideas.

#20. Birdwatching, Squirrel Judging, and Porch Surveillance
The birdwatching comic was born from quiet porch watching of the birds and flowers, as well as tea and neighborhood life, among older women. Bird Watching can be quiet, but it can also be adventure, observation and gentle comedy. This comic was designed to celebrate the peaceful joys of old age. The message is that age does not have to be loud to be meaningful. Happiness can be found sitting on a porch with binoculars and a warm cup of tea.

Grandmother inspired cartoon jokes are respectful, warm and affectionate. We don’t aim to make fun of older women, but rather to make common senior experiences funny and positive. There are changes as you age, but there are also stories, confidence, patience, style and a great sense of humor. We hope that all these old age comics help remind readers that grandmothers are not only the keepers of all the memories, they are also the star of everyday comedy. Each wrinkle can hold a story, there can be a joke in each routine and every older woman deserves to laugh at life in a loving, honest and uplifting way.
